Moisture related skin breakdown occurring when moisture from urine or stool damages the skin. Urine is alkaline continued contact with normal skin can cause weakening of the skin making it more susceptible to friction and erosion. Fecal incontinence leads to active fecal enzymes damaging the skin. Adult diapers, although designed to absorb can ultimately trap heat and moisture causing redness and inflammation that can progress to what is known as diaper rash and ultimately skin erosion.
