Immobilization

• Through the use of a Charcot-Restraint-Orthotic-Walker (CROW) boot. A CROW boot is a custom made boot with a foot/ankle orthosis resembling a ski boot. Its function is to protect the bottom of the foot from pressure and shear forces that may cause the already weakened foot bones to change shape. By off-loading the foot it gives it time to heal.

Custom shoes and bracing

• Custom made shoes with special inserts to protect from ulcerations can be made once the foot has healed allowing patients to return to their daily activities
