Oxygen is essential for wounds to heal. This form of therapy increases the amount of oxygen in the blood to promote wound healing. Patients can be placed in either pressurized rooms or individual chambers where pure, 100% oxygen is administered while under increased atmospheric pressure. The air pressure is much greater than normal pressure allowing the patient’s lungs to fill with more oxygen. More oxygen is carried through the blood and to the wound site promoting healing.
